New Offering: A harassment training tool for global workplaces

I’m excited to announce the official launch of an exciting solution: a new, one-of-a-kind e-learning training program we’ve developed in partnership with modern workplace training solution company EasyLlama, and share more about how it came to be.

Five years ago, I sat in the back of a small room at Airbnb’s headquarters in San Francisco, and observed the company’s then-General Counsel and Chief Ethics Officer Rob Chesnut deliver an anti-harassment and ethics training to a small group of new employees. “Our mission here at Airbnb is to create a sense of belonging for people, wherever they are in the world,” Rob said. “But we can’t do that unless we create a sense of belonging here at work, first.”

I’ve seen a lot of anti-harassment trainings delivered over the years, but this was the first time I noticed that every person in the room was fully engaged and present. Too often, employees view anti-harassment trainings as a “check the box” compliance requirement that’s a distraction from the more interesting and important work that they’ve been hired to do.

So what made this training different? First, because the training was being delivered by a senior leader, employees took it seriously and saw it as a priority. Second, because the training was connected to the company’s unique mission, employees saw it as part of learning how to do their jobs well, not a distraction from the core purpose of their work. And finally, because Rob’s approach was interactive, fun, and engaging, people genuinely seemed to enjoy it.

In the years since, I’ve worked with Rob and other leaders to try to bring this approach to other organizations. The Purple Method’s live custom anti-harassment training aims to help leaders without similar internal expertise or resources develop and deploy trainings like Rob’s. But with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and the shift to remote work, it has become harder to replicate that approach in the kind of exclusively live, in-person setting I observed in 2018. It’s a problem I’ve been working on solving ever since, and I’m excited to share our solution with you!

Our new one-of-a-kind training utilizes customized branded call-out bubbles and unique video and tech tools to invoke your organization’s mission, culture, values, and workplace policies. And while it’s legally compliant in all 50 states, it goes well above and beyond those check-the-box requirements with interactive components that are fun and engaging.

Although it’s not intended to be a substitute for a live training like Rob’s, it is a great option for organizations that have deskless or remote workers. The content in the e-learning training mirrors what’s in our live training, so that organizations can employ a hybrid approach that ensures that every employee – from the C-Suite to the frontline – has the benefit of quality, effective, and engaging training.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to learn more about the training’s unique approach, and see whether it might be a good fit for you or your organization. If you have questions or want to explore further email us at hello@thepurplemethod.com or fill out the form on this page.
